A new title for something we’ve been doing all along…

One of the things I love about Year Two of Silver Creek Area CEO is that I get to take what worked last year and build on it.

Our students have always played a role in preparing and representing our class during guest speakers and site visits. This year, we gave that responsibility a name:

CEO of the Day.

Each time we welcome a guest speaker or go on a site visit, one student takes the lead.

Before the visit, they research the speaker and share what they learn with the class. They make the phone call to confirm the details. When our guest arrives, they welcome them, introduce them to the class and help set the tone for the morning.

And when the visit is over, they offer a professional thank-you and lead the class into our group photo.

It’s not a new responsibility.

It’s something our students have been doing.

But giving it a title makes it feel different.

It gives the student ownership.

It gives them a reason to prepare.

And it gives all of us a reminder that in CEO, students aren’t simply participants in the experience. They are responsible for helping create it.

Friday, Bella was our first CEO of the Day.

She researched Wendy Symer, shared what she learned with the class, confirmed the details of her visit, greeted her at the door, introduced her to the class and closed out the morning.

And she did it beautifully.

I think we’re going to have some fun watching this title get passed from student to student throughout the year.

Because leadership doesn’t always look like standing at the front of a room.

Sometimes it looks like making the phone call.

Being prepared.

Opening the door.

Shaking someone’s hand.

Saying thank you.

And making sure someone knows they were genuinely welcome.
