Our next graduate spotlight from Mascoutah High School is Mariam Barrientos.
This fall, Mariam will be attending SIUE to study business.
When reflecting on her CEO experience, Mariam shared:
“Something I learned about real business was the actual struggle business owners go through when facing business problems. People usually talk about it but it is on the surface level, but being in CEO I was able to hear the stories of the owners and what they went through to get to the success they find themselves today.”
She went on to add: “The speaker or site visit that influenced me the most has got to be the visit we payed to Jung Truck Service, Inc. with Bruce Jung. This site visit is significant to me because of the success of the company. It also allowed me to see the insights of what it is like to run a large scale business and what preventive measures they have to be able to prepare for.”
Mariam also took time to recognize the people who make this program possible:
“Our program would not be possible without our investors and mentors. These people have believed in us when this program was just starting up and no one really understood the purpose of it. No one could have imagined the things we accomplished. The mentor/investor who impacted me the most was Stacy Stein. She was there every time I needed her support and advice. There have been countless times in which I have felt overwhelmed with the different things needed to be done and she was there for all of it.”
Mariam brought a very thoughtful perspective to our class this year, and I know that mindset will continue to serve her well in her future chapters of life.
