Intentional Acts of Kindness — #19
Honoring Hard Work with Gratitude
Our 19th Intentional Act of Kindness comes from Mariam Barrientos, a senior at Mascoutah High School.
Mariam comes from a hardworking family and carries that same mindset into every part of her life. As she looks ahead to the opportunities within the Silver Creek Area CEO program, she hopes to continue learning, growing, and building a future in business rooted in dedication and perseverance.
For her act of kindness, Mariam chose something close to home and deeply meaningful. After returning from a trip, she spent time preparing a home-cooked meal for her parents as a simple but heartfelt thank-you for all they do.
Her parents manage and work on hog farms—long, demanding days that rarely come with breaks. Mariam shared that helping around the house or making dinner may seem small, but it offers her parents a moment of rest and relief after exhausting days on the farm.
This act was Mariam’s way of acknowledging the sacrifices her parents make every day and lightening their load, even just a little. It’s a reminder that kindness often lives in the quiet moments—showing appreciation, stepping in, and caring for the people who care for us.
We’re proud of Mariam for leading with gratitude, humility, and heart. ❤️
