Our 13th Intentional Act of Kindness comes from DJ Schmitz of Freeburg High School, and it’s a powerful reminder that kindness often looks like preparation, care, and love for the future.

DJ is someone who leads with purpose. He is involved in multiple clubs and organizations that emphasize leadership, responsibility, and service, and he carries those values into every part of his life. Whether he’s working alongside peers, planning for his future in financial planning, or showing up for the people he loves, DJ thinks ahead and acts with intention.

That mindset shaped his act of kindness.

DJ built his grandma a new step for her garage — not for recognition, but for peace of mind. As she gets older, he wanted to make sure she could safely get in and out without the fear of falling. It was a simple solution, but one rooted in deep care and foresight.

This act of kindness wasn’t about fixing something broken. It was about protecting someone he loves. About noticing a need before it became a problem. About making life safer and easier for family.

DJ’s act reminds us that kindness isn’t always loud or emotional in the moment. Sometimes it’s steady, practical, and driven by love that thinks ahead.

We are proud of DJ for showing us that true kindness is found in responsibility, care, and doing what you can to protect the people who matter most. ❤️
